Please join us this Friday, August 25th, at Amnesia, for the next round of Stateless! Grey Filastine will be headlining, performing music from his new album - featuring a wicked mix of field recordings, sound collage, hip hop, arabic and indian beats. Here's the Boomkat review of his new album "Burn It," released on DJ Rupture's Soot Records:
"Thankfully this hugely accomplished debut album from Filastine on DJ Rupture’s Soot label is one that will stay on your playlist without fear of deletion. Taking influence from the four corners of the world; blending Brazillian funk with Jamaican riddims, Indian vocal honey with French rapping… this is a veritable world cruise (albeit without the pub-singer crooning). Filastine manages to distill his worldly influences without coming across trite or contrived. Never while listening to ‘Burn It’ did I stop and get cynical, it’s just not that kind of record. An excellent achievement and a huge recommendation – don’t burn it, BUY IT."
and another review from Seattle's Stranger:
"reminiscent of the murky drama of Ninja Tuners like Amon Tobin and DJ Food - throughout the album the lines between live performed contributions and meticulously contextualized samples is slurred and burnt... it feels like a thrillingly tense interaction between these ideological factors and the gold-toothed, whip-riding luxury of hiphop culture"
Grey will be joined by a guest vocalist, will be playing live polyrhythms, and will dub out his set via his performance art aesthetic (Grey is the conceptual mind behind Seattle's infamous Infernal Noise Brigade). Don't be surprised when you see his gear loaded on a shopping cart, a critique on consumerism and hypercapitalism...
In addition to Filastine, we have a special guest opening the night:
DJ Cyan will drop soulful sounds, liquid funk, drum and bass and dubstep...
The Worker, co-founder of Stateless alongside the Special Agent K, will follow DJ Cyan and drop ragga breaks, deep international techno, adding slivers of dub, brazilian, drum and bass, and breaks...
Filastine will play next...
The Roots and Wires Hi-Fi (Special Agent K, Andy G) will be closing the night with some original productions: expect some roots/dub, dubstep, and drum and bass meets virtuosic classical indian music (including All-India Radio artist, Ghanshyam Sisodia (sarangi), top disciple of Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, Preetam Ghosal (sarod), and classical vocal virtuoso, Ujwaal Nagar). These sonic ninjas will also select the thickest in UK steppers, ragga jungle, asian massive, and roots/dub, all while dubbing the mix live with delays, reverb, siren unit, melodica, and video imagery! As a special treat, we will also be featuring tracks from Talvin Singh's upcoming album. This is so fresh that we can't give you any more details - I can say that you won't find this dubplate material anywhere else until next year. It is simply beautiful music, so please come and take any early sneak peek!
The Special Agent K will be doing live video mixing throughout the night, creating a rootsical container for your sonic experience...
This should be a night of edgy, experimental but danceable, outernational music and image...
We hope to see you all at Amnesia (853 Valencia, between 19th and 20th) this Friday, August 25th starting at 9PM. The cover is only $5 and the night goes until 2 AM...
Peace,
Khenu (Special Agent K)
